University of Miami Features Boys Champions Founder for Connecting Research, Gender Equality and Peacebuilding

The university highlights Noel Ifeanyi Alumona’s efforts to connect academic research with practical solutions to the challenges facing boys and young men.

MIAMI, FLORIDA | October 2026

The University of Miami has featured Boys Champions Founder and Chief Executive Officer Noel Ifeanyi Alumona in a story exploring his work to bring boys and men into conversations about gender equality, education, and peacebuilding.

Published by the university’s School of Education and Human Development, the feature examines the connection between Alumona’s academic journey and his community-based work in Nigeria.

Alumona is pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Miami, where his research interests include boys’ educational experiences, literacy, and the relationship between schooling, identity, and social development.

His academic work builds on years of experience working with young people, including the establishment of Boys Champions in 2018.

The organization engages boys and men in programmes addressing harmful gender norms, violence prevention, emotional wellbeing, and respectful relationships.

Through its Boys to Men programme, Boys Champions works with schools to create opportunities for boys to question the expectations placed on them and develop healthier ways of relating to others.

Alumona believes research can help organizations move beyond measuring participation to understanding whether interventions produce lasting changes in behaviour.

“Working with boys in our communities has taught me that some of the most important questions cannot be answered by counting how many people attend a programme. We need to understand what changes in their thinking, how those changes influence their relationships, and whether the effects last. My doctoral research gives me an opportunity to examine those questions more closely and bring what we learn back into the communities where the work began.”

His emerging research interests also include the literacy experiences of boys in Nigeria, particularly how learning environments, social expectations, and educational opportunities influence their engagement with reading.

The University of Miami feature comes as Boys Champions seeks to strengthen partnerships with researchers and educational institutions to better understand the effectiveness of its programmes.

For the organization, the connection between research and practice is central to its next phase: developing interventions that are grounded in evidence, responsive to communities, and capable of producing meaningful, lasting change.
